900 POUND GORILLA: Decades of Punk, Metal, and Rock Built on Resilience

For more than two decades, 900 POUND GORILLA has been bringing its unique blend of rock, metal, and punk to audiences while building a career rooted in one simple philosophy: love the music, play the gigs, and connect with people.

Formed in 2000, the Canoga Park, California band has spent years establishing itself within the Southern California music scene. Along the way, 900 POUND GORILLA has earned recognition, appeared on numerous compilation albums, and continued pushing forward through some significant changes to its lineup.

The band’s journey has never been solely about accolades, though. At its core, 900 POUND GORILLA is about the experience of being in a band — getting on stage, playing music, meeting people, and continuing to create.

A Career Built on Recognition and Experience

Over the years, 900 POUND GORILLA has collected accomplishments that reflect the band’s longevity and presence within the music community.

The band was named Best Punk Band at the Los Angeles Music Awards, has been featured on multiple compilation albums, and was even on the ballot for the Grammys.

Those milestones represent more than individual achievements. They are reminders of just how long 900 POUND GORILLA has continued to put in the work while remaining committed to its sound and live performance.

After more than 20 years of playing together, the band’s story is one of persistence — continuing to move forward regardless of what changes along the way.

Honoring Those We’ve Lost

Like many bands with a long history, 900 POUND GORILLA’s journey has also included moments of profound loss and change.

The band lost its drummer Jeff, who passed away in 2021. Another longtime friend and singer/bassist, Donat, eventually moved to Northern California three years ago, creating another major transition for the group.

Rather than allowing those changes to stop the band, the remaining members adapted.

Todd transitioned from guitar to bass, proving himself to be an accomplished bass player in the process. Addison, who moved to California from Chicago, joined the band on drums.

The lineup may have changed, but the commitment to 900 POUND GORILLA’s music has remained.

A New Era of Music

Today, the band is more focused than ever on creating new material and increasing the frequency of its releases.

900 POUND GORILLA has been concentrating heavily on new music, videos, and more consistent releases, giving longtime fans something new to look forward to while creating opportunities to introduce the band to an entirely new audience.

The band’s ambitions extend beyond simply releasing songs.

900 POUND GORILLA wants to reach a larger audience, play bigger shows, and perform at major festivals in the coming year.

With decades of experience behind them and a renewed focus on releasing music, the band is entering this next chapter with plenty of momentum.

“Fend for Yourself”: A Song With a Message

The band’s upcoming single and video, “Fend for Yourself,” is scheduled for release on September 17th.

The track carries the introduction “March of the Unknown Soldier to the Liquor Store” and explores serious issues surrounding the experiences of military veterans and the lack of support many face after their service.

The inspiration came from a particularly powerful period in the band’s history.

After 900 POUND GORILLA played shows at military bases in Greenland for three months, the members became friends with numerous service members. Some of those individuals were dealing with unexplained illnesses they had experienced after serving in Iraq.

According to the band, many of those veterans were told that their problems were “all in their head” and struggled to receive meaningful support from the government.

Those experiences stayed with the band and ultimately became part of the inspiration behind “Fend for Yourself.”

Giving a Voice to the Veteran Community

The song and accompanying video expand beyond the band’s personal experiences in Greenland to address broader issues affecting the veteran community.

“Fend for Yourself” focuses attention on the challenges veterans can face after their service and the consequences of inadequate support.

For 900 POUND GORILLA, the track isn’t simply another release. It’s an opportunity to use the band’s platform to bring attention to people whose experiences deserve to be heard.

The combination of punk, metal, and rock gives the band an ideal vehicle for delivering that kind of message — direct, energetic, and unwilling to shy away from uncomfortable subjects.

Looking Toward the Next Stage

After more than 25 years of making music, 900 POUND GORILLA isn’t slowing down.

The band is actively working toward reaching new listeners, releasing more music and videos, and expanding its live presence. With “Fend for Yourself” arriving September 17th, the group is hoping to introduce its latest chapter to a much larger audience.

The band’s goals are straightforward: more listeners, bigger shows, major festivals, and continued growth.

But underneath all of that remains the same motivation that has driven 900 POUND GORILLA since 2000 — the love of playing music, the excitement of performing live, and the connections made along the way.

With a new single carrying an important message and a band that has already proven its ability to endure change, 900 POUND GORILLA is ready to make plenty of noise in its next chapter.
