Representing Fortifiedsound Label and hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, artist Cataclysmiic has spent approximately 26 years developing his craft through a deep-rooted passion for poetry, lyricism, and musical creativity. Rather than chasing trends or attempting to fit into a particular sound, Cataclysmiic has built his career around creating music that genuinely reflects what comes from within. For him, authenticity has always mattered more than following what is popular.
Creating Without Following Trends
Cataclysmiic believes one of the most important lessons for artists is to remain true to themselves. His philosophy is simple: make the music you believe in, even if it sounds different from what everyone else is doing. In his view, people will always have something to say regardless, so allowing outside opinions to dictate an artist’s creativity can ultimately take away from what makes that artist unique.
A Background in Audio Engineering
His dedication to music extends beyond performing and songwriting. Cataclysmiic holds a B.S. in Audio Engineering and Electro-Acoustics, giving him a technical understanding of the recording and production process. That education has complemented his creative side and allowed him to explore music from both an artistic and technical perspective.
Endless Possibilities in the Studio
For Cataclysmiic, the recording studio can become a world of its own. He describes time as seemingly disappearing whenever he is recording or mixing, with the endless possibilities of music often keeping him working until six or seven in the morning. Years of creating have also resulted in thousands of recordings, creating both an archive of material and a challenge when it comes to organizing everything into cohesive albums with a consistent sonic identity.
Choosing Passion Over Numbers
Looking toward the future, Cataclysmiic does not necessarily envision himself changing his approach. If anything, he expects to remain in much the same place creatively, perhaps simply reaching more listeners and accumulating more streams along the way. While there is always a possibility that a particular song could gain massive attention, he has no intention of changing his style or lyrical content simply to appeal to the masses.
Letting Success Happen Naturally
That philosophy carries into his advice for other musicians. Cataclysmiic encourages artists to remain pure, create the music they genuinely love, and avoid obsessing over whether the masses will immediately understand or appreciate it. If a song or project becomes successful, he believes that success is best when it happens naturally rather than through forcing a sound or altering one’s artistic identity to chase an audience.
Promoting Conscious Lyricism and Creativity
At the heart of Cataclysmiic’s work is a desire to promote conscious lyricism, positivity, and musical creativity. His catalog already includes approximately 10 albums, but that is only a portion of the material he has accumulated throughout his years of recording. He is currently working toward compiling and releasing another 20-plus projects as he continues sorting through the thousands of tracks recorded over the years.
