BlokStar: From Knoxville’s Hip-Hop Scene to a Long-Awaited Return

Derick Jefferson, better known as BlokStar, has been connected to hip-hop for more than three decades. Born in Knoxville and now based in Nashville, Tennessee, BlokStar is a rapper whose story is rooted in perseverance, family, and a genuine love for the entire music-making process.

BlokStar’s musical journey began in the summer of 1991, when he recorded his first song. What started as an early introduction to recording quickly became a lifelong passion.

Making a Name in Knoxville

By the early 2000s, BlokStar had established himself as one of the hottest names coming out of Knoxville. His momentum led to opportunities to perform alongside some of hip-hop’s biggest names, including Three 6 Mafia, T.I., 8Ball & MJG, and Lil Flip.

For BlokStar, performing became one of the most memorable parts of his early career. The energy of being onstage and connecting with audiences helped define an important chapter of his musical journey.

In 2005, BlokStar released his first studio album, marking a major milestone after years of work in the Knoxville music scene.

Putting Music on Hold for Family

Not long after releasing his album, BlokStar made a decision that would temporarily change the direction of his career. He gained custody of three of his sons and chose to step away from music so he could focus on raising them.

Rather than walking away from music permanently, BlokStar viewed the decision as putting his career on pause while he handled his responsibilities as a father.

Now that his sons are grown, BlokStar is ready to pick up where he left off.

Overcoming Setbacks

BlokStar’s journey back into music has not been without obstacles. One of the biggest challenges came after the release of his first album, when he lacked the promotional infrastructure needed to properly push the project.

His former manager was also sentenced to approximately six years in prison after becoming involved in illegal activities, creating another major disruption during an already difficult period.

Despite everything, BlokStar continued creating music whenever he could, releasing singles here and there throughout the years.

Another major setback came when an MPC crash resulted in the loss of approximately 25 songs. For an artist who had already experienced years of interruptions, losing that much unreleased material could have been enough to walk away for good.

Instead, BlokStar kept moving forward.

A New Chapter:

Peace iN Chaos

Now, BlokStar is rebuilding his catalog and preparing for what could become one of the most important releases of his career: Peace iN Chaos.

The upcoming album is expected to feature approximately 12–14 tracks, with nine songs already completed. While an official release date has not yet been announced, the project is steadily taking shape.

The album currently does not feature any major-name guest appearances, but BlokStar has already brought several important collaborators into the project.

David Benton appears on a track titled “Best of the Best,” while producer The-O, who has produced five tracks on the album, will also make a featured appearance.

More Than a Comeback

For BlokStar, returning to music isn’t simply about recreating what he accomplished decades ago. It’s about building something that can last.

His biggest dream is to develop a loyal following and continue growing as an artist while giving listeners music that represents where he has been and where he is going.

After beginning his journey in 1991, making a name for himself in Knoxville, performing alongside some of hip-hop’s biggest acts, releasing his first album in 2005, stepping away to raise his children, losing music along the way, and eventually finding his way back, BlokStar has plenty of history behind him.

Now, with Peace iN Chaos on the horizon, BlokStar is ready for the next chapter.

His story isn’t about starting over.

It’s about picking back up where he left off.
