From Ecuador to the Bronx, New York, Juan Carlos Sanchez is building his identity in music under the producer name D R K S I D E. With a deep appreciation for the producers who helped shape the sound and global reach of reggaeton, D R K S I D E is focused on learning, collaborating, and developing his own path within the music industry.
His journey is heavily inspired by the legendary Latin producers he grew up listening to, including Luny Tunes, Naldo, Nelly “El Arma Secreta,” Nesty “La Mente Maestra,” and Tainy. For D R K S I D E, these producers represent the OGs of a movement that transformed Latin music and introduced reggaeton to audiences around the world.
Inspired by the Producers Who Changed Reggaeton
Among all of his influences, Luny Tunes holds a particularly important place in D R K S I D E’s musical journey. Their work with major artists such as Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Tego Calderón, and Wisin & Yandel demonstrated how powerful production could be in helping take an entire genre to another level.
The impact those producers made continues to inspire a new generation, including D R K S I D E. Their ability to create memorable sounds while working alongside some of the biggest names in Latin music showed him the possibilities that exist behind the boards.
Collaboration as a Way to Grow
One of D R K S I D E’s most meaningful accomplishments so far has been the opportunity to collaborate with other producers. Rather than viewing collaboration simply as another credit, he sees it as an opportunity to learn, exchange ideas, and become a better producer.
His latest collaboration was with his friend Saffy on “Wave In Motion.” The track was produced by D R K S I D E and mixed and mastered by James. The experience reinforced an important lesson for him: successful music is often the result of people working together toward the same vision.
For D R K S I D E, the project demonstrated that teamwork can lead you in the right direction, especially when everyone involved communicates clearly and remains on the same page.
Building Toward the Future
As he continues developing his sound and expanding his network, D R K S I D E has his sights set on working with artists and producers he has admired since childhood. His ambitions aren’t limited to simply gaining recognition; he wants to continue learning from experienced creatives and push his own abilities further.
