DOOD: The Rhode Island Music Creator Turning Darkness Into Dreamlike Soundscapes
Emerging from Rhode Island’s growing creative scene, DOOD — the musical identity of Aidan Staebler — is crafting a lane entirely his own. A self-described music creator, DOOD blends nostalgic ambience with soft, melancholic instrumentals that drift between sleepy, emotional, and deeply introspective. Though he only began making music in 2024, his sound already carries the maturity of someone who lives through music, not just listens to it.
For DOOD, music wasn’t a hobby. It was an escape.
“I’ve always listened to music — all kinds, except country,” he says with a laugh. “But it was the sad, sleepy, atmospheric stuff that really connected with me. It helped me out of a dark place. Eventually I realized I wanted to make something that could do the same for someone else.”
inspirations
Influenced by ambient and electronic visionaries like C418, Hotel Pools, and A.L.I.S.O.N, DOOD taught himself production from scratch — literally “pressing buttons” until something clicked. The journey wasn’t glamorous; it was long, quiet, and filled with trial and error. But after a year of refining his craft, something shifted. His sound found its shape.
The next challenge? Promoting the music.
“I had no idea how to market myself,” he admits. “So I just posted TikToks and hoped someone would hear me.”
trials and tribulations
Even without a major breakthrough yet, DOOD is determined. His goals are grounded but passionate: gain a few thousand Spotify followers, build a loyal listener base, and eventually grow DOOD into a full creative brand. As a graphic design student building his own website, he plans to merge visuals and sound — and maybe even release merch someday.
For now, the dream is simple: to see people listening.
“To me, that’s everything,” he says. “If you like sad, atmospheric, instrumental music, I think you’ll feel what I’m making. I just want to share it with the people who need it.”
what’s next
DOOD may be early in his journey, but his honesty, self-taught dedication, and emotional storytelling set him apart. As he continues to grow, one thing is clear: he isn’t just making songs — he’s crafting moments for people who need a quiet place to land.
