Inside Voices Are Already Who They’re Meant to Be

Inside Voices—made up of liminaal and mary low (Mason James and Raghav Surya)—are the kind of artists who don’t sound like they’re chasing a moment. They sound like they’ve arrived and are now widening the blast radius. Based out of Amherst, Massachusetts, the duo have been releasing music together since 2022, steadily refining a partnership that feels both deeply personal and sharply tuned to the chaos of the modern internet age.

The focus of his music career

Their current focus is a rap run that signals a new level of confidence and clarity. The first single, “The Best To Do It,” sets the tone: bold, kinetic, and self-assured without feeling hollow. It’s followed closely by “Casino Royale,” dropping on the 10th, and together these tracks mark the beginning of a consistent release schedule—new songs every couple of weeks, with larger projects planned through the end of the year and into 2027. This run showcases liminaal’s eclectic, high-energy production—restless, tactile, and alive—paired with mary low’s distinctly 21st-century flows, shaped by irony, urgency, and lived experience.

How it all started

The story behind Inside Voices is inseparable from distance and movement. Raghav left Massachusetts for college in Maine in 2021, and for years the duo created across different places and phases of life. In 2025, that distance finally collapsed when Raghav moved in with Mason in Kenmore. The time apart wasn’t a setback—it was formative. Balancing countless musical and aesthetic influences while navigating physical separation forced each artist to sharpen their voice independently. Now, reunited in the same space, the sound they’ve landed on feels intentional and fully realized.

Their rap music pulls directly from mary low’s personal experiences growing up as an immigrant and grappling with the absurdity of the 21st century—endless information, online identity, and cultural whiplash. liminaal’s production mirrors that absurdity, manipulating his laptop like an instrument, bending digital textures into something physical and dynamic. Together, they create a synthesis that feels new—not just sonically, but conceptually.

While the rap run is the headline, Inside Voices is bigger than one sound. The collective represents a broader creative ecosystem, with side projects like Hotel Lydiaa (liminaal) and jay sur (mary low) expanding their range and proving that versatility isn’t a detour—it’s the foundation. At their core, Inside Voices are artists who already embody what they want to be. The next step isn’t self-definition, but scale.

Goals for the future

Their goal now is simple and ambitious: reach more people, release relentlessly, and use their growing platform to push for positive social change. Inside Voices aren’t introducing themselves—they’re inviting listeners into a world that’s been building for years, and it’s only getting louder.
