Jub: Building Real Dance Floors From the Edge of Alaska
Coming from Ketchikan, Alaska—a small island town better known for fishing boats than club nights—Jub has built his identity far from the traditional pipelines of dance music. With no real local scene to plug into, the DJ and producer had to create his own lane, one rooted not in trends or algorithms, but in the physical experience of the dance floor.
Jub’s approach to the music industry
Jub identifies as a DJ first. While production supports his sound, his true focus is live performance—crowd control, extended transitions, and the kind of hands-on mixing that treats a DJ set as a living, breathing musical arc. His approach is inspired by the energy of Boiler Room–style performances, where connection matters more than perfection and the room dictates the direction.
How it all started
Growing up isolated from established electronic scenes forced Jub to dig deeper. Instead of chasing what was popular locally, he immersed himself in crate digging and developing a distinct sense of flow and storytelling behind the decks. That isolation became an advantage, shaping a DJ style driven by instinct, patience, and an understanding of how energy moves through a room.
His breakout moment
His breakout moment came with the release of his debut single “Simple,” which generated over 100,000 views across social platforms during its rollout. Shortly after, Jub released his debut EP “Rooms With a View” in January 2026, a project designed to complement his live sets rather than dominate them. His most recent single, “Bullshit,” released January 30, 2026, continues that ethos—direct, intentional, and built for the floor.
biggest accomplishments
One of Jub’s most defining moments came when he performed and recorded a public DJ set on the Ketchikan docks. The performance not only captured the raw spirit of his approach but also landed him on the front page of the Ketchikan Daily News, a rare crossover moment between underground dance music and small-town Alaska.
Trials and tribulations
Building a dance-music career in such a remote location hasn’t been easy. Limited venues, age restrictions, and a lack of electronic infrastructure forced Jub to get creative—recording sets, hosting pop-ups, and building an audience online rather than relying on traditional club circuits. While industry pressure often pushes DJs toward constant production output, Jub has resisted that pull, choosing instead to release music intentionally while letting his live performances lead.
Despite the challenges, he’s grown a dedicated audience across TikTok, Instagram, SoundCloud, and Spotify, and has begun booking shows both locally and outside of Alaska, with upcoming out-of-state performances on the horizon.
What’s next
Looking ahead, Jub envisions himself touring the West Coast, consistently filling 200–300 capacity rooms, while still returning home to Alaska to headline and host local events. His goal isn’t overnight virality—it’s longevity. He’s focused on building a sustainable career through live music, cultivating real communities, and reshaping how people view DJing as a craft.
At its core, Jub’s story is about presence—about creating spaces where people can step out of their heads, into the moment, and onto the dance floor. No shortcuts. No industry formulas. Just real rooms, real energy, and real connection.
