Marc John: A Life Between the Skies and the Soul
Some people spend their lives chasing adventure. Others spend their lives chasing meaning. Marc John has done both.
How it all started
Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Marc John is a writer, wordsmith, lyricist, producer, and professional helicopter pilot whose remarkable career has taken him from Air Force Search and Rescue missions to offshore operations and VIP transport. Throughout it all, however, another passion was quietly growing in the background—his lifelong love of writing.
A decorated pilot, Marc earned his Air Force Wings and was awarded the Air Force Cross Medal following the Calarasi Rescue on South Africa’s Wild Coast. He also achieved Provincial Colors in Water Polo. While his military and rescue career exposed him to some of life’s most intense situations, those experiences helped shape his perspective on resilience, humanity, and the importance of connection.
“Air Force was bloody tough,” Marc reflects. “Officers Course too. All my rescue and emergency medical flying was intense, but highly rewarding.”
Yet despite the challenges of flying in high-pressure environments, Marc admits that sharing his creative work with the world may be one of the most daunting things he has ever done.
For decades, he filled notebooks with poems, lyrics, and reflections on life, love, and loss. Much of that material remained private until he was finally encouraged to share it.
The result is Apollo’s Muse, a companion poetry book and album that tells a deeply personal story about falling in love, losing it, and searching for it once again. The project combines Marc’s songwriting with modern production techniques, creating a unique blend of heartfelt storytelling and contemporary sound.
After finding little success convincing established artists to record his songs, Marc decided to produce the music himself.
“Songwriter meets AI magic,” he says.
The album features nine Indie Pop tracks that bring his words to life while preserving the emotional honesty at the heart of the project. Together, the book and album offer listeners and readers an intimate glimpse into a journey many will recognize as their own.
Marc believes that vulnerability and openness are essential parts of the human experience.

“We are all dealing with the same challenges of this remarkable existential survival challenge,” he explains. “The biggest part of that challenge is often our own state of mind. The best thing we can do is be honest and open, share what we’re going through, and help each other deal with it all.”
His creative ambitions extend far beyond a single release. Marc is currently sitting on a vast collection of material written throughout his life, including several future poetry books, new music projects, potential collaborations, and a roman à clef inspired by his life experiences.
This week marks another exciting milestone as he begins releasing Deep House dance versions of the songs from Apollo’s Muse. Starting June 5, new singles will be released weekly, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the same emotional stories through an entirely different musical lens.
At the heart of Marc John’s work is an appreciation for creativity, possibility, and the wonder of the universe itself. Whether flying helicopters across challenging landscapes or exploring the depths of human emotion through poetry and music, he remains driven by curiosity and gratitude.
And while he has witnessed extraordinary things throughout his life, Marc believes nothing compares to the greatest mystery of all:
