Rising Artist Joshua Mika Is Finding His Voice — and He’s Got Something to Say

At just 21 years old, Cleveland native Joshua Mika is already proving that ambition, talent, and authenticity can take you far — even if you’re just starting out.
What makes Joshua different
The singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist is carving out a space for himself in a crowded music world by leaning into what makes him different: a unique upbringing, deeply personal songwriting, and a sound shaped by both church roots and the complexities of early adulthood.
where it all started
“I feel like I have so many stories to tell,” Mika says. “Growing up as a Black teenager who never really fit the mold — that shaped how I write and how I sing. I want to be a mouthpiece for people figuring out love, limerence, anxiety — everything that makes early adulthood feel so intense.”
The realization of Joshuas career
His music is introspective and intimate, a reflection of someone who’s spent time thinking deeply about where he’s been and where he’s going. Raised in church, Mika found a love for music early on — but it wasn’t until high school, during some of his most difficult years, that he realized just how powerful it could be.
The shift in Joshua’s mindset
“I dealt with bullying — like, a kid literally came to my house and messed with my dad’s car just because he didn’t like me,” Mika recalls. “At first I took it, but eventually I decided I had to fight back. Not physically — but by becoming so successful and involved that he couldn’t ignore me anymore.”
That shift became a defining moment. Mika threw himself into every activity he could, becoming an active participant in his own life. Now, that same mindset fuels his music career.
“I make everything myself — writing, singing, production — and I’m working on my first EP while also juggling school,” he says. “It’s not easy, but I’ve got big goals.”
Big is right. Mika doesn’t shy away from dreaming out loud. A few years ago, he had a vision of giving a speech on the Grammys stage. “Sounds crazy, I know,” he laughs. “But I believe if I work hard enough, I can get there.”
What’s up next
For now, he’s focused on promoting the singles he released over the summer and building excitement for what’s next. But whether his audience is five people or five thousand, Mika says the mission remains the same.
“If even a few people connect with what I write — really feel something from it — then that’s already a win.”
With a clear voice, a strong sense of self, and a growing catalog of music, Joshua Mika is definitely one to watch — not just because of where he’s been, but because of where he’s headed.
