Yesyr: Finding Freedom Through Sound, One Journey at a Time
Emerging electronic artist Yesyr (real name Michiel Nonay) is carving out a sound rooted not in trends, but in truth. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, and raised in the small town of Slave Lake, Yesyr’s music reflects a life rebuilt through resilience, creativity, and an unfiltered love for the process of making art.
Minor setback for a major comeback
After overcoming drug addiction, alcoholism, and homelessness, Yesyr found himself drawn back to music—not as a pursuit of perfection, but as a form of survival and self-discovery. Only recently stepping into producing his own tracks, he approaches creation with curiosity rather than constraint, allowing inspiration to guide him wherever it leads.
Experimenting different genres
“I gravitate around EDM,” he explains, “but I don’t like staying in one lane. I enjoy taking inspirational journeys through other genres and seeing where the creation takes me instead of forcing everything to fit.”
That openness defines Yesyr’s early catalog. His first releases are raw by design—intentionally not over-polished—capturing real-time growth rather than waiting months to chase flawlessness. The result is a body of work that documents progression, honesty, and momentum.
On the release front, Yesyr is building consistency. His upcoming track “NYK” is set to drop on the 5th, followed by what he calls his favorite song to date, “Taste My Love,” releasing on the 22nd. Each release marks another step forward in both confidence and craft.
Accomplishments from consistency
While he doesn’t yet have major accolades, Yesyr has seen flashes of organic traction through micro-viral comedy content on TikTok, hinting at an authentic personality that resonates beyond music alone. More importantly, he’s putting in the work—learning software, saving for equipment, and creating nearly every day.
What’s next
Looking ahead, Yesyr’s focus is on connection. His goal for the year is to build a strong lineup of songs that translate live, allowing him to travel, meet people, and share music wherever he’s welcomed.
“I want people to use and share my music,” he says. “Even if only a few people connect with it, that’s a win for me. God willing, they’ll find something inspiring in it and create something of their own.”
With a growing catalog, an honest approach, and a story that resonates deeply, Yesyr represents a new wave of artists who value journey over genre—and progress over perfection.
